The Teach Inn project has already made a massive impact on Niyakasiru but it has the potential to do much more. You can track the progress of the project with our regular news bulletins and we'll make sure we let you know every time the Teach Inn Uganda Hotel funds a new community project.
First Volunteers Arrive at Teach Inn
April saw the arrival of Teach Inn Uganda’s first guests. The five Leeds Metropolitan University students - Stephen, Katie, Rachel, Angela and Lorna now known at the project as the Teach Inn ‘Trailblazers’ were given a warm Ugandan welcome before settling in to their new digs.
The group were greeted by the Channel 4 Silver River film crew and Teach Inn founders Deirdre Bounds, Tony Callaghan and Seb Bishop. As the first volunteers, their arrival will be screened as part of the Channel 4 documentary in September.
The Trailblazers spent four weeks getting involved in holiday work at the school – playing games and singing songs with lots of renditions of good old ‘heads shoulders knees and toes’!
Teach Inn Becomes Sports Inn Uganda
Teach Inn Uganda became Sports Inn Uganda for the day in a bid to introduce The Trailblazers, along with a new flurry of Teach Inn volunteers, to the in-country staff. And what better use for a group of 15 volunteers than a good old sports day!
Even the threatening weather couldn’t dampen the high spirits as the volunteers, children and in-country staff were split into teams and got stuck into a fun packed day of sports day classics.
Unfortunately it wasn’t all fun and games as the sports day also marked the last day with the children for The Trailblazers.
